Xi’an Jiaotong University is one of China’s oldest and most prestigious universities under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education. Founded in 1896 in Shanghai as Nanyang Public School, the university has developed a strong tradition of academic excellence, innovation, and national service. In 1956, following the national strategic decision to relocate westward, the university moved to Xi’an, giving rise to the renowned “Westward Migration Spirit” (“Xiqian Spirit”), which emphasizes patriotism, dedication, and serving the nation.
Today, Xi’an Jiaotong University is a comprehensive research university covering 11 major disciplines, including engineering, science, medicine, economics, management, humanities, law, and arts. It is a member of China’s “Double First-Class,” “985,” and “211” initiatives. The university consists of 36 schools and departments, 9 undergraduate colleges, and 3 affiliated hospitals, with more than 65,000 students and nearly 7,000 faculty and staff members.

According to the latest ESI rankings, 19 disciplines rank within the top 1% globally, with engineering ranked among the world’s leading fields.
